Duke Lifeflight

The mission of Duke Life Flight is to provide the highest level of care to patients, families and communities served by Duke Health through the integration of clinical care, education, and industry leading safety standards in air and ground transport. In addition to responding to accident scenes and hospital transport requests, the team is able to provide care to patients who require specialized equipment such as Extra-Corporal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO), Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP), and Nitric Oxide Ventilation.

Our adult transport team consists of Critical Care Registered Nurses and Critical Care Paramedics and our Neonatal / Pediatric Transport Team is comprised of Critical Care Registered Nurses and Critical Care Respiratory Therapists. Both teams are supported by our Emergency Medical Technicians, Communications Specialists, Helicopter Pilots and Mechanics. In support of our multimodal platform, Life Flight offers BLS, ALS, Code Blue response and Event Medicine services. These teams are staffed with Emergency Medical Technicians and Paramedics.

Duke Life Flight operates air and ground bases in Durham, North Carolina and Smithfield, North Carolina. Our team provides world-class care to patients in North Carolina and Virginia. The intense level of care patients receive, from the time we pick them up to the time they arrive at Duke Hospital, can make a significant difference in their survival and recovery.
